We’re Michael and Tracey—founders of The Manx Lobster, a small, independent family business proudly based in the picturesque village of Port St Mary on the Isle of Man.

Our Story

The Manx Lobster was founded in 2020, when we purchased our commercial potting boat, Vervain, and took over a small seafood processing unit right here in our hometown.

Fishing is more than a business for us—it’s a way of life. Michael has been passionate about the sea from an early age, fishing for pleasure long before he turned professional in 2016. When the opportunity arose to acquire his own vessel and take over a local seafood operation, we knew it was our chance to do things differently—and The Manx Lobster was born.

What Sets Us Apart

Our mission is simple: to deliver the freshest, highest-quality crab, lobster, and fish the Isle of Man has to offer.

Unlike many producers who batch-cook and freeze their shellfish in advance—only to later defrost and sell it as “fresh”—we take a different approach. At The Manx Lobster, we prepare everything to order. We take pre-orders, then cook and prepare only what’s needed the day before collection or delivery. This ensures an exceptional level of freshness, flavour, and texture that you simply won’t find in supermarket seafood.

This made-to-order process not only guarantees top quality but also supports sustainability by reducing waste and ensuring we only harvest what’s required.

In addition to our signature shellfish, we also offer seasonal delicacies including:

Manx Queenies (July to September)

King Scallops (November to May)

Mackerel (May to September)

Each of these is sourced and prepared fresh—never frozen—to bring you the true taste of Manx waters.

Our Passion

We are deeply committed to the future of the Manx fishing industry. Working closely with the Department of the Environment Fisheries and Agriculture, we advocate for sustainable practices and celebrate the incredible quality and uniqueness of local seafood.

From fishing and preparation to customer service, we genuinely love what we do—and we’re incredibly proud to share our passion (and our catch!) with you.

As we continue to grow, we’re excited to expand our offerings and introduce even more fresh, local seafood products. Thank you for supporting our journey and choosing truly fresh Manx seafood.

All our crab, lobster and fish has been caught in Manx waters. We catch, source, cook and smoke it all ourselves in our small factory in Port St Mary. 

We have also been awarded the Product of Isle of Man certification accross all our products which certifies they are 100% of Manx origin.

In September 2023 we also became the 350th partner of Unesco Biosphere Isle of Man where we pledge to do what we can to help build towards a more sustainable future. This has always been a major part of our business model which is why we mainly cook to order once per week, this ensures very minimal food waste as we only cook what is required.
